Nyn\u00ed v\u0161ak tyto dv\u011b proevropsk\u00e9 strany vid\u00ed novou mo\u017enost p\u0159ipojen\u00ed, proto\u017ee mezi EU a Spojen\u00fdmi st\u00e1ty z\u0159ejm\u011b vznik\u00e1 rozkol. Island se strategickou polohou v severn\u00edm Atlantiku, ale s mal\u00fdm po\u010dtem obyvatel, spol\u00e9h\u00e1 z hlediska sv\u00e9 bezpe\u010dnosti na obrannou smlouvu s USA, zat\u00edmco p\u0159\u00edstup na trh EU z\u00edskal d\u00edky \u010dlenstv\u00ed v Evropsk\u00e9m hospod\u00e1\u0159sk\u00e9m prostoru, EHP, s Norskem a Lichten\u0161tejnskem a prakticky i se \u0160v\u00fdcarskem.
