Me\u0111utim, kontekst je i dalje obilje\u017een daljnjim napetostima, kao \u0161to pokazuje nedavna \u017ealba EU-a Svjetskoj trgovinskoj organizaciji (WTO) protiv kineskih carina na europsku rakiju. Klju\u010dnu ulogu u pribli\u017eavanju odigrao je bilateralni susret kineskog predsjednika Xi Jinpinga i njema\u010dkog kancelara Olafa Scholza, na marginama G20 u Rio de Janeiru. Zhou Mi, istra\u017eiva\u010d na Kineskoj akademiji za me\u0111unarodnu trgovinu i ekonomsku suradnju, nazvao je put dijaloga &#8220;uvijek pravim izborom&#8221; i izrazio nadu u rje\u0161enje koje uzima u obzir zabrinutosti obiju strana. Kompromis o ovom pitanju mogao bi postaviti pozitivan presedan, pokazuju\u0107i da je dijalog odr\u017eiv na\u010din za rje\u0161avanje slo\u017eenih pitanja bez pribjegavanja trgovinskim ratovima koji ka\u017enjavaju obje strane. Dok pregovori o elektri\u010dnim automobilima bilje\u017ee potencijalni napredak, EU se suo\u010dava s jo\u0161 jednim sporom s Pekingom. Bruxelles je najavio \u017ealbu WTO-u protiv kineskih privremenih carina na uvoz europske rakije, za koje smatra da kr\u0161e me\u0111unarodna pravila. Europska komisija je naglasila da kineske mjere nisu potkrijepljene dovoljnim dokazima koji bi pokazali stvarni rizik \u0161tete lokalnoj industriji rakije. Istodobno, napetosti oko rakije i drugi potencijalni sporovi nagla\u0161avaju potrebu za strate\u0161kim pristupom EU-a, balansiraju\u0107i dijalog s odlu\u010dnim mjerama za za\u0161titu svojih interesa. Trgovinski odnosi izme\u0111u Kine i Europske unije na raskri\u017eju su. Dok postoje znakovi kompromisa u sporu oko elektri\u010dnih automobila, druge fronte, poput one europskog brendija, nastavljaju testirati sposobnost dviju sila da upravljaju svojim razlikama.
