European Union leaders gathered in Brussels to confer with Ukrainian leadership, reiterating their steadfast commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and its future within the European Union.

Statement by António Costa, President of the European Council
«Our message to President Zelensky is very simple: the support of the European Union to Ukraine remains as strong as ever. This is no time to withdraw the support to Ukraine, nor to relieve Russia’s sanctions. Now is the time to increase our support and pressure, which is essential to bring Russia to accept a real ceasefire, to bring Russia to the table of negotiations, and to stop this war.»

Statement by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission
«It is a very important moment to have you here in the European Council, showing our close and intensive cooperation on Ukraine’s path towards the European Union. You have successfully opened two more clusters, and we aim to open the final two clusters towards the end of the year to advance accession reforms. Furthermore, we are fully committed to supporting Ukraine through the upcoming winter against Russian attacks on energy and water infrastructure. We stand by your side, and we will overcome.»

Statement by Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine
«I am so thankful for the huge support from the EU Council, Commission, and leaders who have stayed with us from the very beginning of this war. Our agenda focuses primarily on energy needs, and while we want to end this war as quickly as possible, we do not currently see signals that the Russian side is ready for a genuine end to the conflict. Therefore, preparing for the winter remains critical, and we continue to count on European support.»
