European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have welcomed the formal opening of the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, labeling it a historic milestone.

”Yes, I also want to join those who congratulate Ukraine for opening the first cluster. This is a big step forward. Congratulations! And you deserve it, because you have been working so hard to move forward, to do the necessary reforms. We hope that during the summer we can open more clusters, this is very important because when Ukraine delivers, we also have to deliver.

It’s been a historic week for Ukraine. On Monday, we opened formally the negotiations of the first cluster. It’s a very important step towards the enlargement of the European Union and the full accession of Ukraine to the European Union.

Thank you so much, dear Ursula. Dear Antonio, thank you for the invitation. Dear journalists, I agree with both presidents and for us it’s really a great moment for Ukraine, Ukrainians. Yes, the first cluster was opened thanks to all the leaders for the, for their unanimity, at least. Unanimity is great, absolutely. The first cluster, fundamental. Today we will, of course we will discuss five next very important, also historical steps for Ukraine, five next clusters.
